Everyone quickly assumes the best exercises to lose belly fat are crunches. This couldn't be further from the truth! You could do crunches all day long and still never see your abs. The real secret to losing belly fat is weight loss diet. The diet coupled with the right exercises (no, not crunches!) and you will strengthen your abs and have your six pack showing in no time.
I have met multiple men and women with amazing 6-pack abs. I immediately asked each person what their ab workout is like. Do you know what they each said!? I don't work out my abs...WHAT? How is that possible? Are they genetically gifted?
When I inquired further, I discovered that they were training their abs HARD while simultaneously strengthening their entire body and losing body fat...sounds too good to be true, huh?

Compound exercises utilize more muscle fibers and require a lot of stability generated from your abdominal muscles. Your abs will get a serious workout from performing these multi-joint movements, and you will burn off a bunch of fat in the process.
Most of these exercises can be performed bodyweight, with dumbbells, or with a barbell. I prefer loading a barbell so I can do some heavy lifting and seriously tax my muscles.
If you are new to these exercises or haven't lifted weights for a while, I highly advise starting with your bodyweight and slowly progressing to a barbell or set of dumbbells.
Creating A Workout
We are going to create two workouts that you will rotate between 3 times a week. For example, you will perform Workout A Mon and Fri and Workout B on Wed. The following week you will perform Workout B two days and Workout A one day.

The compound exercises above will seriously train your abs hard! If you want to add in a little challenge, perform one of the following exercises at the end of your workout.
Regular Plank [3 sets, 30-60 seconds]
Side Plank [3 sets, 30-60 seconds]
