Cat Food: Making The Right Choice
When choosing cat food, make sure that the first five ingredients listed on the packaging contain a primary meat source. Furthermore try buying a premium brand and a flavor that your cat likes most.
A nutritious diet is absolutely necessary for your cat's healthy and long life. A well balanced, nutritious and digestible diet will help your cat to be more active and result in less veterinary care. There are many different brands available in the market today that claim to contain the best nutrients for your cats, however you need to purchase the food while keeping in mind your cat's age, its health and your own personal preference.
Cat food can basically be classified in to three categories that is, dry, moist and wet (or canned). Dry food resembles kibble and is hard and crunchy and is not generally that popular amongst fussy cat owners. Moist cat food is very much like the dry food but is more soft and chewy. The most popular type is the wet food that is available in cans and comes with various sauces which most cats also prefer.
When purchasing cat food, you should go through the first five ingredients listed on the packaging. The ingredients are usually listed according to weight, and the first five ingredients represent a large part of the cat food. As cats are carnivores they need meat. Therefore the cat food you purchase should have a primary protein source listed as its first ingredient instead of corn something similar.
Don't try to purchase the most economical cat food available to save money. Cheap cat foods are high on carbohydrates and may result in an obese and unhappy cat requiring much more veterinary care. Thus an 'economical' cat food may end up being more expensive. It is therefore advisable to purchase a good brand.
Furthermore, cat food is available in a variety of flavors in all three categories. The basic ones include chicken, beef, lamb and seafood flavors. Cat food is also available in various combinations of these basic flavors such as lamb and chicken or beef and lamb. Go for a flavor that your cat enjoys the most to ensure its happiness.
