In the next few paragraphs you will find a comparison of each type of motion light and the pros and cons of each.

Solar power motion lights are a good choice for those that have no wiring experience and would rather not spend the money on an electrician. Mounting them is as easy as finding a location that gets plenty of sun and putting in some screws with a screwdriver. Most solar lights come with a long cord that runs between the light and the solar panel making it much easier to install your light in a shady spot but having the solar panel in a sunny one. The biggest cons with solar lights are the need for sun and that they are not as bright as electrically power lights but if you don't need a really bright light that will not matter.

Battery powered motion light are another choice for those with limited experience and funds. These lights can be placed just about anywhere which is their biggest advantage. The biggest problem are that they need new batteries every so often and that they are not very bright even compared to the solar lights. But light the solar light if you only need a small amount of light like the corner of porch they work great. One other advantage is that battery powered motion lights a typically very inexpensive costing as little as $10.00.

Now if you are wanting the best you can get then you can't go wrong with electrically powered motion lights. These lights can be big or small extremely bright or not so much depending on what you need. There biggest problem though is also what makes them so great, the electricity. If you want this type of light in a location that doesn't have a power supply them you must install one or have someone else do it which normally cost money.
