Those who become involved in prolonged cyber-relationships may come to the point where they want to take it a step further and actually meet their love interest in the flesh. Now this does happen and perhaps everything turns out fine, however there is always the potential for, if not harm and danger, then at least extreme annoyance. The standing operating procedure is of course to use common sense, however there are times when one lets their guard down, so it’s always good to review the wise and pragmatic rules. And for goodness sake don’t use your real name (it’s not that hard to come up with a clever handle) coupled with your birthday. If you give a physical description, alter it don’t let anyone know where you live, or where you attend school. And if you get caught up in jabs and put-downs, let it go, there is no reason to take anything to heart in a chat room. If you do decide to chat through email, create another email, you can open up one most anywhere.

Fantasy World

When chatting, it’s probably a good idea to just make everything up, at least in regards to your persona, after all, everyone else is. Be on your guard, use common sense and never be lured into coughing up precious information. So if Fabio Salami says, “Hey Sexy Suzie, just for kicks, what’s your social security number?” Just tell him, “000 Get Lost.”
