Warts on the fingers can be uncomfortable and interfere with normal day-to-day activities. If you have them, I'm sure you want to know the different ways to eliminate them. Some of these treatments can be painful, complicated, and expensive, while others simply are not very effective. Let's look at what is available.
To start with, we should consider what outcome we want to achieve, and then we can see what kind of treatment can bring us this result. After removal of a wart, I would say that we want healthy skin, with no scar and minimal chance of recurrence of the wart. Regarding the procedure itself, we want it cheap, painless, quick and easy.
Let us now examine some of the treatments to remove warts.
First, the wart can be frozen using liquid nitrogen. This usually requires a health care professional to complete the procedure, so it is likely to be costly, and often very painful, even if a local anaesthetic may be used. Typically, several applications will be needed to complete the treatment. Often this procedure will leave a scar and the warts will sometimes return after a while.
Your doctor may suggest using electro surgery, or laser therapy to remove your warts. These involve using the heat produced by either an electric current or a laser to kill off the wart. Both of these methods can be painful and may leave scars, and again are likely to be expensive.
Many people have reported that using duct tape for wart removal has been very successful. This involves repeated applications of duct tape to the surface of the wart. However, this often takes several weeks to work and can be very annoying having pieces of tape stuck to your hands.
Several over the counter products are available at your pharmacy that can help remove warts. I cannot review them here, but a close look at the ingredients can help you decide which may be most effective. Known to be an effective wart killer is Salicylic acid, but there is some disagreement on the best concentration to use, but if you have the strength right, then this can remove a wart quickly and efficiently, with very little pain. If the product contains Aloe Vera, it will help moisturize the skin and stop the return of the warts, and Tea tree oil has also proved very useful for many people.
There are also very effective treatments that can be done at home. Using items most people will already have in their store cupboards at home, a cream is made up to apply to the wart. These provide a low cost and relatively easy way to remove a wart. The best ones can get results very quickly; in as little as three days, and many people have used them to successfully eliminate their warts at home.
