Flip Houses or Flip Websites?   by Paul Tomlinson

Flipping houses is a lot like flipping websites. How can I say this? Because I have done both. Just a few short years ago, I was taking foreclosed properties and renovating them to the point where nearly everything was new. From flooring, kitchen cabinets, lighting, electric, plumbing, drywall, etc... Of course it depended on the property and the amount of work that was needed to make it look great. As a bonus, we (my partner and I) always included stainless appliances.

Flipping websites is very similar. You can take a delapidated website, add some great content and then flip the website. Of course it may go beyond just a simple fix and flip. Here are some ideas that you may want to incorporate if you want to flip an existing website:

Press Release
Quality content
Backlinks
Article Writing
Blog Commenting
Social Networking
Social Bookmarking

Now if you had the choice to start a website from complete scratch with the idea of flipping the website, you would include plenty of unique content, issue a press release surrounding a specific product (perhaps several press releases), and write articles within several high PR websites to get good backlink diversity. Lets say my new website was about beads and beading and I wanted to flip this website. I would also find the top keyword phrases associated with my niche and incorporate those into both my website content as well as articles. The more competition you find within a certain keyword phrase, the more backlinks you will need to that specific blog post or article. We won't go into the specifics on how to work with the list shown above but suffice it to say that whether you working with a brand new website or are fixing an ugly website, use the list above to make your website look the best before flipping the website.

Why do we do all this if you simply want to flip your website? There are a few reasons. The bottom line is that whether we are flipping the website or not, we want to have the best looking website, with the best content. The higher your website ranks in the major search engines, the more money you will make in affiliate commissions. The same thing applies to Google Adsense if you are using that on your website. This all passes on to having a quality website to flip. So here's the thought process. In general (and there are many exceptions), if you are looking to flip a website in an auction setting, you will get 10 times your monthly earnings.

Flipping a website is an easy process. I recommend using Flippa but there are plenty of other options. Looking back over the many years that I was involved in flipping homes, I would much rather sit back in the comfort of my home, in air conditioning, and flip websites.
