Follow the Leader ~ Steve Jobs    by Mary Buchanan

in Education / Continuing Education    (submitted 2011-10-05)

With the passing of Steve Jobs, the world has lost a true visionary. From the Apple IIe in schools across America to the iPad, a computer that even a two year old can use, his quest for excellence was undeniable.

Steve Jobs passed today and we truly did lose a visionary. This was a man that could get you so into his vision - a second gift - you have a vision and you can convey it. Not only convey but produce and present to the world ( a third gift) a whole new way of doing things. A friendly intuitive way. A way that a baby just with us can tap on a screen and make things work.

I have seen these babies and it is amazing, in my work on my reviewing educational iPad apps for kids. Give a two year old an iPad and fill it with good apps - press the power button - from there my little guy swiped to find his favorite icon and started working with numbers. I sat in awe.

I turned into one of those babies. The iPhone had it all and I wanted to touch every screen I saw and make it work. I am the easy to spot Apple person who won't pick up the stylus to put in my pin my finger works. Jobs taught me to expect that, I may very well grab your phone and try to pinch and zoom - a pic...

The nano let's me pick and choose, I listen to my chosen music and news ( sorry just finished reviewing a Dr. Seuss app LOL ). I don't listen to drama sensationalized hype. I feed myself with positive information that will help me grow so that I can share it. My Apple tools make that possible, evident in my recent article Four Apples a Day!

To those that worked with him closely, know you were right and remember to follow through with what you were taught by him and what he knew you could add.

Steve was and will remain for will remain - a seer, thinker, knower, and a doer.
Inspiration is what he was all about. His excitement inspired many. That is what happens. He was in spirit in life, following his soul's desires. That was his gift to the world in this life.

Many blessings and prayers of comfort and peace to his loved ones.
I loved who he was from a distance and can only imagine the loss to near ones as I cry.

He was a farmer planting seeds and they will continue to grow, adapt and thrive :-)
Take time to mourn his loss and keep his spirit alive.

I love my iPhone, iTunes and my mac but what I really loved about Jobs was his passion for education and excellence, improving all of our lives. Even though this is truly a sad day, I hope each and every one of us reflect and reach inside, and uphold ourselves to the high standards he has set.
