Forestry and the Natural Balance of Earth's Ecosystem   by Sam P

The Earth has a complex ecosystem. The main components however, are water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ozone. The key to keeping life as we know it is to come as close as possible to the natural balance of the aforementioned ingredients. Trees are a huge component to the balance of the main elements in nature.

In modern times, cities are growing and sprawling across land that was once providing to the natural balance of the Earth's ecosystem. The tide is changing to recognizing these losses to the ecosystem, and actions are being taken to revitalize the flora and fauna.

Plants convert CO2 into oxygen. They also contribute to the water cycle and enriching the soil. Before humans became industrialized the skys were much clearer and the air was cleaner. Recently however, humans are creating more toxins and taking away more plant life. The green movement has certainly slowed the process but the trend is still heading in the wrong direction. There must be a balance of oxygen, carbon dioxide, ozone, and water for humans to survive. We shouldn't continue to deplete oxygen creating sources while adding carbon dioxide.

Forestry workers have the ability to keep mass amounts of land trimmed and thriving. They have the tools to keep large trees and plant life thriving in urban environments. If it weren't for 80' bucket trucks allowing workers to trim the tops of tall trees, they would have to be chopped down in growing cities.

Whether you have already joined the movement to go green or not, keep in mind that the Earth is what supports our lives and is just like any other living thing, needs nutrition. If we lived more in line with our ancestors and become more eco-friendly, the world will be a better place. If possible, donate your time or money to a reputable forestry company.

When trees and plants are demolished, there are a lot more affected than what you see. The soil below is not as rich, the insects and animals that used the tree as shelter/ food are killed or forced to leave, and much more is affected. Keeping forestry workers updated with the newest technology will allow more trees to be saved which allows more contributions to the natural balance of Earth's Ecosystem. The next time you see a worker trimming trees from his bucket truck, be happy they are there to keep the tree and they're not there to cut it down.
