Adult chat rooms cater to people from all walks of life. For gays and lesbians, online chat opened up a whole new world for them to find others like themselves without going through the motions in bars and clubs. Chat rooms also give them the privacy that they might prefer as they seek out a partner. Whether a room offers free chat or charges a fee for it, the idea is the same as it is in singles chat anywhere: Meet new people!

The Rules Remain the Same

The same caveats apply as with any other chat room. Until you physically encounter someone, you have no idea how much of their story is true. Web-cam sites have reduced the worry in this regard and will continue to do so as their use becomes more prevalent. While men who prefer men (and women who prefer women) might feel perfectly at home in a chat room that does not specifically cater to homosexuals, they don't have to rely on shots in the dark to find someone of their orientation.

Beware the 'Bots

It should be mentioned that all adult chat rooms - gay, straight or in-between - are burdened with things like pop-up ads, spam reactions and 'bots that will try to sell you stuff when that's not what you were hoping for. It happens with the same head-shaking inevitability with which junk mail follows you from one address to the other. If it could be eliminated, it would be, but hardy adult chatroom mavens know to take such frustrating material with a grain of salt.

Gays and lesbians have every right to their own online forums, just as do firemen, jockeys, Seventh Day Adventists or anyone else. The beauty of the Internet is that it is a high-tech device of inclusion, not exclusion, which explains why so many people tend to get so uptight about it. The World Wide Web is a progressive place. It has a tendency to leave the narrow-minded right where they belong: Behind.
