Retail industry has been providing both a way of life for some people and an access to a wide variety of good for others. It provides the services and goods that each individual needs and wants. It also remains the fastest growing industry as well as the top employment provider. Because of these, retail businesses are constantly eyed as a good opportunity to make a living.

How It Works

Normally, retailing follows a pattern. The products or services are bought from the main provider who could be a manufacturer or a wholesaler. These can also be bought from another retailer, an importer or a distributor. After being acquired, they will be sold to the actual consumers who will use them for their personal use.

Selling Methods

Online Retailing is the type of retailing that boomed when people discovered the emergence as well as the power of eCommerce. eCommerce made it easy and efficient to conducting money transactions over the web. When people have become more familiar with the internet, they have also seen the convenience and other benefits of shopping online as compared to shopping in actual stores.

Online retailing offers many benefits to retailers. The overhead costs are low because the start up doesn't require a physical store space. There will also be less manpower requirement for setting up and running it. On the other hand, it also saves the consumer time that is usually spent on driving to the store and going from one store to another to find the exact product needed.

Nowadays, instead of being a stand-alone business, it is also now a part of a physical store. Many stores now have a physical store as well as online outlet.

Store retailing is another kind of retailing, which is, very evident everywhere. Communities especially cities are studded with malls of all sizes that offer almost everything we need for our families, our homes and ourselves.

When a store offers specialized or personalized products for a specific group of people, it is called specialty. It includes stores that covers are generally smaller; have less merchandise display, but with specific target consumers.

Both store and specialty retailing are more expensive to set up and maintain as compared to online retailing. However, they are still the most common type of retailing. They can be found everywhere and have been catering to our needs for quite a long time. Stores are normally not run by only one person. Depending on the size, most stores would require the service of another person or other people who can help make the sales. This is where a bulk of the employment opportunities is generated. The services of a sales assistant are very much required especially by a big store to help make the sales.
