"Rick Washbrook's guitar playing is beautiful."

I'd like to share a little about my teaching methods. I know when I sink my teeth into something musically; it seems that at the start it will be simple to play. When I play it I see just a little weakness here and there, admitting I can not play it perfectly, but then again, who can without really practicing it over and over. When you gradually slow down a section of the music you are working on perfecting, you find there are little bumps you have to even out. Be sure to review every day when it is still fresh in your mind.
I practice just the parts I am weak at to get over that little bump. Ten minutes go by, and I find I am already sinking my teeth into another very intricate area. I may find a better fingering for a certain section because I am slowly playing the things that I already know, and focusing more on detail. Now 45 minutes have gone by and I have come up with a new etude exercise to help me differentiate how to play those intricate parts in a fun manner to get my mind off of the section I am working on. When you allow yourself to go with the process, you'll find you can call upon your inner guide.
I have a very unique approach that I use when using the metronome. It is my own inventiveness that made me come up with this method. I would like to share it with you if you are interested.
I can show you this process and how it can be beneficial. It is not boring and it does not cause the student to become impatient. I encourage trying different fingerings and even positions on the guitar to see where I can execute it the best, and relax and slow the part down.
Another one of my own methods that I use to help my students with rhythms and syncopation is to encourage them to play rhythm patterns in the air with their hands and arms.
If we take away the guitar or the instrument from the student, they will not have to be bothered with guitar playing left and right hand dexterity. When a rhythm for the student is hard for them to play, I find it is usually because they played it incorrect from the first time they learned it, and never spent enough time on it or had someone there to let them know they are playing it incorrectly.
I enjoy sharing with other guitarists what I have experienced throughout the 38 years of my life that I have spent learning about guitar.
