Give equal attention to the musical skills you are learning and you will not feel frustrated because you are not hyper focusing on only just one area of study for to long.

Focusing on only one area of musical skills can get you feeling frustrated. Instead, try giving equal attention to all of the musical skills you are learning during your weeks practice time. It is a very good idea to spend a time each day on your musical theory. Have a time in the day where you are expressive and tap into your creativity. Learn to play your own fresh and creative ideas. This is very helpful.

Spend some time in your practice session practicing to read and play the notes on your instrument. Practice your chords and strumming and making sure you are playing in time using a metronome as your tempo guide. Practice your scales and picking techniques. Spend time learning little bits and pieces from one of your mentor song writers or hot guitar players. Go to where your heart leads you. You may be interested in perhaps classical music or world music full of interesting beats and rhythms. The key is all the information is out there you just have to look for it.

Ear training is an essential part of your weekly practice time. The musician should practice a little each day learning to play little parts from a song they like. Play a short section of the song you are working on and then stop the music and sing what you heard from the few short bars. When you stop the song at the end of a short section of the songs notes, chords, bass, or lead guitar what you heard is fresh in your mind. You will train yourself to hear it in your mind and then quickly express what you hear with your voice. I want to stress the key is to hear it in your mind internally and vocalizing as fast as you can before it goes away is externalizing it. The sounds you are focusing on will be easier to sing because it is a short few bars you are working at training your ear to sing and then seek to find the notes or chords on your instrument.

Some suggestions I can give you to do during your practice sessions or times during the day you a have a moment, sing or hum creative song melodies or sounds of your own with unique rhythms. When you feel good about what you are singing out loud then find your musical idea on your instrument.

Don't get frustrated when training your ear. Be patient and your ear will get more developed every day. Singing everything you play is a very important topic to share with you. You may have seen a TV show or DVD's of some of your favorite players and look and see that they are singing or making sounds when they play. You can even hear this from some of our great performers when they are recording and they get to the solo section for example and the piano will be playing and the microphones' on the piano will be also picking up the players voice singing, attractive or unattractive sing what you play.

All of the skills I have mentioned will really help you if you can find a balance between how much time you spend on each musical skill and you will become an excellent guitarist and musician.
