Almost since the invention of computers, there has been a form of spyware but these days it is much more sophisticated and destructive. If you suspect suspicious activity on your computer, act now! With a few common sense guidelines you can protect and prevent spyware from invading your computer.

Free Spyware Programs

There are many great free anti-spyware downloads available but with some of these free spyware software programs there are viruses that can cause a great deal of heartache. However, there are things to be aware of that will help. Before you install any anti-spyware programs, make sure you don't install programs that have within them adware. For those of you that don't know, adware is software that is responsible for those annoying pop-up ads that appear when you log on to certain sites. Some freeware programs include adware. That is how they make money. Be sure to read the license agreement. Check the publisher's web site carefully. Often if you don't see any negative postings, the program is probably alright.Do your research to be sure you don't end up with something more than anti-spyware.

Pop-up Blockers

Then, make sure to install a pop-up blocker. This will keep pop-up advertisements from constantly occurring as you work on your computer. Next, be careful that you don't install adware software without knowing it. Sometimes one can click on a link that looks safe and seconds later see a dialog box. Clicking on a dialog box can bring in the adware or spyware. If you ever have a doubt on this--this sometimes happens when spyware is offered for free--don't do it. Always be careful of what you download. And, be sure to install a firewall. An effective firewall can protect your computer from being attacked. Firewalls will block attacks from remote locations and also block software from taking over your network connection. And, check out Elite Keylogger Spy Software for information on spyware.
