You have a fantastic flat screen TV which looks almost as good as going to the cinema… but where is that engrossing sound! It is precisely the fact that modern TVs are so flat which means they don't have the capacity required to create a full surrounding sound! So, what to do about it!

The 'Soundbar' is a tidy compact alternative to achieving surround sound in your living room, without the laborious upheaval of installing a conventional surround sound system with the amplifier and all its paraphernalia. With a Soundbar you can get up to 5.1 surround just from the one unit, which can be placed on your AV rack under the TV. A Soundbar is a long, slim unit that is usually as wide as your flat screen TV. All you need is a mains plug for it and you are away! So much simpler and less invasive to your homes décor than trying to install a conventional surround sound system, with its yards of cables that need feeding around the room to connect to the six speakers that you need to find a permanent spot for!

There are many styles of Soundbar and of course varying price ranges depending upon their available functions. Make sure the one you choose has enough in puts for the equipment you want to use with it to avoid disappointment. You may need an HDMI input for your DVD or BluRay player or maybe there is an XBox player waiting to enhance their game with gripping sound! You just plug all your gadgets into the back of the Soundbar, and then you plug the one cable from the Soundbar into you TV and your away! You can get Soundbars that can automatically regulate the sound level for your room, as it has a built in microphone.

Make sure there are no TV stand legs or gadgets obstructing the front of the Soundbar or it will dampen down the superb sound. If your TV stand is already squashed full you could wall mount the Soundbar. In the time it would have taken to think where on earth you would have placed six surround sound speakers, you could have the Soundbar plugged in and be enjoying enveloping surround sound in your living room with the aid of just one sleek unit!
