Every guy wants his website to rank well in Google. And, everyone knows that you need links in order to get the pages on your site ranking well. Guest blogging is a popular method that people use to generate these backlinks for their sites. It has gained in popularity as other methods have slid down in priority. But, is guest blogging really all that powerful when it comes to generating links?

I guess if you want to judge how powerful this form of marketing really is then you really have to judge it in comparison to something else. You could be using article marketing, forum linking, blog commenting, directory submissions, any one of a number of paid link networks or you could just go buy the links. You really have a lot of choices.

In many cases your blogs won't be any more powerful than any other link that you would get from another blog by commenting or an article directory by submitting a new article. Often times it may be about the same. It all depends on the quality of the blog that you are able to get your post published on. If that blog is related to your niche and it has a lot of Google PageRank to throw around, then it will probably be a lot more powerful than a typical article directory.

The great thing about guest blogs is their ability to send you traffic in addition to the link juice. Guest blogs generate traffic because the blog is typically going to be well maintained compared to other sites. The blog probably has other useful articles on it and it may have a regular following.

Another great thing is that the blog post is likely to rank higher in the search engines because it is on a higher quality site that is well cared for. It may not rank higher in Yahoo or Bing, but I bet it will rank higher in Google. Google is where the most traffic is at anyway.
Yet one more great thing about guest blogging instead of other forms of link building is that your guest blog will probably remain powerful for years to come. You can't say that about a lot of other methods. Those other methods will all eventually begin losing their rank boosting capability for one reason or another. Your guest blog is much less likely to have that happen.

Guest blogging takes a lot more effort than you would need to give for a typical article marketing campaign. Other bloggers are bound to be pickier about what you publish. The article directories really don't know how good your material is. It is doubtful that anyone even reads the article during the review process. On a guest blog you can bet that it is going to get a real human review before publication. So, you will have to step your game up a notch compared to standard article marketing.

About the Author

You might think that you can only publish at websites that are one hundred percent relevant to what your website is all about. This is not the case. It is important that you write good high quality directly relevant material for the other blogger. Still, you should be able to find a way to refer to your own website using a relevant keyword. Look at how I did this with a guest blog that I wrote about eBook readers. My blog is not about eBook readers at all. Yet I was able to slip in the fact that I am a part time blogger. Use your creativity to find a way to make it work.
