New Design for an Old Sex Toy by Martin Archi

It has taken a while, and at times it has been a struggle but modern day society has rightly embraced the freedom of personal choice. The result is a range of products on the market, some of which have evolved from items available centuries ago.
There are images and samples of items which would now come under the umbrella of sex toys as old as time, with the relatively recent Egyptian versions made from wood, stone or leather examples that show that Man has always used artificial aids to enhance his sex life.
They are widely described as dildos but there are versions that have developed through time which have been adapted to a number of purposes, and one example is the butt plug.
The sex aid industry now thrives in these enlightened times, but it has not been without a struggle that these times are happily with us. Perhaps one illustration about how difficult a road it has been is in the writings of a liberal Jeremy Bentham who was known as a reformer in his time. He wished to appeal back in 1785 for law reform on the subject of homosexuality which at the time was punishable by death. Taking such a public stance in itself was dangerous and his strong argument for reform was not published for two centuries, in 1978!
The years between were not easy even though decriminalisation took place in France just after the French Revolution thanks to the efforts of one of the writers of the Napoleonic Code, Jean Jacques Regis de Cambaceres whose status allowed him to lobby for change.
It was well beyond the midpoint of the nineteenth century when there was any significant amount of writing proposing change in Britain even though there were other groups pressing for women's rights etc., that were keen to support a general movement against the conservatism of society.
It was probably the Sixties that really saw a sea change. Old values were challenged on every front. Freedom became the cry from many colonies previously under the control of their European masters, individuals rebelled against the conservative attitudes of the elders, and freedom was sought on every front.
It took a while longer for the sex aid industry to really develop beyond the basic dildo and the plastic, Far East manufactured vibrators which were shyly bought and immediately wrapped in anonymous packaging lest anybody else saw what was being carried.
As the industry developed, so did its acceptance in the mainstream of society and hence the availability of new products for the consumer. The butt plug evolved from the original product, the dildo but was designed in such a way that the end was flared so that it could not be fully inserted into the anus, and hence could be safely withdrawn when necessary.
As the rectum and anus do not possess the self lubricating properties of the vagina, it is essential that a lube is used to avoid friction which can cause damage to the walls and pain as a result. Use is simple and fully explained in the instruction leaflet for the novice who buys one for the first time. For anyone in any doubt, the supplier is happy to answer all questions which are indeed likely to be covered within the website.
