Online Classes Allow People With Jobs To Return To College! by Erin Malone

The job market today is certainly a tough one. Looking for a job can be a full-time job in itself. Many employers are looking for more than a high school diploma from their applicants. Others may hire those without a college degree, but workers may then find it difficult to advance when their competition within the company have college degrees.
Going back to school can be a smart financial decision, especially for those already employed in a field where a college degree will allow them to advance further and faster. Many schools offer online options, which are typically more flexible in the hours that classes meet, allowing students to work and attend school simultaneously.
For instance, working in a large corporation as an office assistant or secretary may have limited potential for growth and promotion. Going back to school and earning a degree in an area such as human resources can expand the job opportunities of a worker to other fields within the same company or the job market in general.
Similarly, working as a security officer usually only requires that a candidate earn a certificate in security training from a specialty school focusing on security. Returning to college to earn a degree in an area such as law enforcement or criminal investigation can open up new fields and job markets for an employee. He or she can then apply to the local or state police academy, federal agencies, or corporations that are seeking loss prevention agents.
For those working in the corporate world as accountants, marketing or advertising professionals, or other functions, it may seem difficult to make the jump to the executive side of the ladder. Going back to school to earn a Master's in Business Administration can help them do just that, opening up a whole new arena of career opportunities.
Those with Bachelor's degrees in sociology or psychology who have entered the career field of social work may find that their opportunities for advancement are limited as well. A Master's degree in Social Work can allow these professionals to move into public institutions such as schools and hospitals. It will also allow them to perform clinical work - something that they cannot do without the necessary graduate degree.
Going back to school can also be beneficial for teachers. Teachers generally earn Bachelor's degrees in the subjects that they wish to teach. Many teachers are finding that budget cuts are also serving to cut certain subjects from the curriculum, making their jobs less secure. Earning another degree in a more popular subject can mean the difference between continuing in their careers and starting over on a new career path. A degree in special education can be especially helpful, as positions working with children with special needs will always be desired.
