If you just have to be outside and love the pool or beach atmosphere, than you should consider being a lifeguard. Lifeguarding is a great job for both teenagers and adults a like. Lifeguards must be employed by law wherever people are swimming. So, that means, that at a pool or a lake or a beach where swimming is legal, there is opportunity to be hired as a lifeguard There's a bit of a mystique around lifeguards, but becoming one is a relatively easy. Lifeguards typically cannot wear prescription eyeglasses, even sunglasses won't count. You must be able to swim at least 4 lengths of the pool in under two minutes. You typically have to pass this swim test by swimming freestyle. You must be able to swim half a length of the pool while carrying another person. You must pass a physical which is performed by a medical doctor. This is important so that you are declared physically fit and able to work in a strenuous environment. As a lifeguard you will have to run, you will have to swim, and you will have to be able to lift heavy objects. Those with chronic health problems or injuries probably are not fit to become a lifeguard. Finally, you must be certified in CPR. This is important should you need to resuscitate someone who is not breathing.
Finally, you must be personable, like able, and punctual. You cannot be late when you're a lifeguard, and you need to work well as a team with your other lifeguards. Can you pass these tests?
