There are many spirometers on the market, and we have evaluated many of them. Here are a few that have stood out in our evaluations that we think you should know about:

Astra 100 Spirometer

This device gives you one of the most cost effective ways to check your patients for COPD and other lung diseases, such as asthma. You can use this product to check the lung function of patients with asthma, or pre-screen and monitor patients with diabetes when prescribing products such as Exubera. The bottom line with this spirometry equipment is that it is very simple to use and provides highly accurate results in a very inexpensive package. One of the things we like the most about this product is that it is a hand held device. It is possible for a doctor to do a breathing test on a patient right in the office. There is no need to trouble the patient to go to a specialist for such a simple test. You will find that this will save both of you time and money.

The Astra 100 comes with 10 bacterial and viral filters, as well as 10 noseclips to prevent your patients from breathing accidently from the nose during the test. There also is one turbine transducer and one printer cable. We like how it is so easy to hook this product up to a printer and computer so that you can print out the data in seconds. It also comes with a nice carrying case that is quite attractive.

Astra 200 Spirometer

The next level up in spirometry equipment from this manufacturer is the Astra 200. With this device, you can choose from a wide spectrum of programs that are built into the unit. Or, you can design your own programs to print, display and calculate the data and graphics for your patients. This piece of spirometry equipment is made to give you many spirometry tests in one handy device. It is easy to choose what level of test you want to do with this unit. We liked how this product is good for pre- and post-drug spirometry, and also for baseline testing.

The Astra 200 features the Accuflo digital turbine. This is a very accurate bidirectional turbine. It has unique flow triggers, and makes sure that your patient is comfortable during testing. This is done by letting the patient conduct tidal breathing before the test. The precision of this turbine gives you very consistent and accurate data. This is the case even with the low flows that you see with patients with significant lung problems. We find this to be a very high quality piece of spirometry equipment.
