First, do some research and check out some online dating sites. Before signing up for an online site, talk with someone who has had experience with the site, check the Terms and Conditions page and read this online site, The Online Dating Magazine. Once you have found a site that you are comfortable with, be careful not to give out too much personal information. If this site wants too much personal information, move on to another.

What to do Once You Have Found Someone Interesting?

Once you have found someone who has similar interests, take time and find out as much as you can about this person. As you begin communicating, be on the look out for conversations that sound inconsistent or signs that he or she wants to be intimate. These are warning signs, so beware and take the appropriate action. In addition, when you make that first phone call, use a payphone or if you call from home, dial “67.” This will prevent your phone number from being displayed on Caller ID.

Is it Time to Meet This Person?

When you feel it’s time to meet face to face, follow your “gut” feelings. Before calling ask yourself a few questions: Do I feel comfortable with this person? Has this person been honest with me? If you have any doubt in your mind about these questions, then skip the face-to-face meeting!

When it comes time to meet with this person, choose a location that is well known and well-lit—especially if you meet at night. In addition, take someone along with you, drive your own car, have your cell phone handy, and take some extra cash along in cash you need it for an emergency. And, never leave your food or drink unattended.
