Just because your customers could not see you on a telephone, it does not mean that you can take such selling situation for granted. In fact, due to this unique selling situation, tele - marketers must take extra steps to pull it off, and it could be more difficult than the actual face to face selling. How they can do this effectively?

Here are a few tips:

1) Practice. Use non-selling time to imagine an actual sales call. Call it role-play, mock call, or whatever but the idea here is to practice and evaluate your response. It is ideal to do this with a partner and another person as observer, and by end of the session, everyone chip in to give feedback.

2) Use mirror. Put it right in front of you where you can see how you look during the call. Are you smiling? Are you showing faces and make remarks? What would the response be if you were to do this face to face with the customer? It could be revealing when you can see yourself in action like that.

3) Use your imagination. If you can, project the image of making the call in real time, minus the telephone. Watch your body language, the chosen words and your manner during the call as if you are right in front of a customer. It is said that Einstein came up with the relativity theory while he imagine riding a bundle of light. But who knows what you might come up with, right?

4) Positive self talk. When you feel good about what you are about to do, it reflects in your voice and intonation. If you have no time or interest in self-motivation, just make sure you inner voice is saying good things and soak yourself in them. Nothing fancy here.

5) Act as if. Perhaps you are on your fifth call, where the other four had gone sour and your inner self starts talking trash. One of the fastest remedy you can try is to 'cheat' your physique to accept that you are actually feeling great and fired up! Sit the way you would when you are feeling good, talk the way you would talk, and carry out other things in similar manner.
