Electricians are basically equal in terms of basic knowledge but they too can diversify their careers by undergoing different trainings and specializations. With their specialization, they can be deployed in different types of work areas where their training will be put to good use. Aspiring electricians can explore these and practice being the type of electrician that they can be good at.
Maintenance Electrician
As the term "maintenance" implies, people who specialize in this area are those who maintain the performance of different electrical equipment. They make sure that the equipment are kept at good working condition and are repaired or replaced when worn out. As an expert in this area, they have a wide knowledge about the most commonly used industry equipment and their trouble shooting techniques.
Electrical Fitter
If you are wondering what to call the people who install electrical wiring systems in large business establishments and power stations, they are called the electrical fitters. To perform their task well, they need to have basic mechanical and construction skills. They may also specialize on fitting specific machineries.
Auto Electrician
Cars have electrical wirings, too, and the people who make sure that these wirings are installed properly and are working well are the auto electricians. Auto electricians are basically found in workshops and garages tinkering different types of vehicles. Their training includes learning the use of specialized tools and computer systems used for vehicles. They may also work with other automotive professionals.
Mining Electrician
Similar to maintenance electricians, mining electricians also perform maintenance activities. The difference, however, is their work environment.
These electricians are found in mines, both in processing facilities and underground. They undergo formal training at school and on the job and must be familiar especially with the new ethnological advancements of electrical equipment in the mining industry.
Construction Electrician
Construction electricians work with other construction personnel during the entire process of constructing a building or a house. Basically, they are mainly responsible for installing the electrical wiring system and would need to follow the blue prints. In some instances, they learn the tricks of the trade simply by assisting qualified electricians. Others undergo trainings and get formally certified.
Electrical Engineer
Electrical engineers undergo more extensive and in-depth training to be qualified. They are often who other types of electricians become. Usually, if an electrician decides to take further study, they can take up engineering courses, which generally take about five years to complete. As electrical engineers, they will be able to design and even develop electrical systems.
