The 2011 Masters golf tournament has finally arrived and fans everywhere are anxious to see who will wear the green jacket this week. The event begins with the first round on Thursday April 7 until the final round on Sunday April 10th. All of the best golfers in the world will be in competition and honestly there is no real winner that sticks out. It will perhaps play out like all the rest of the PGA events have this year with whoever can get out to a big lead from the beginning has the best chance of winning. This is the way the previous tournaments of 2011 have gone.

If there was one name that may perhaps stick out as the favorite, it will be Phil Mickelson. In the Shell Houston Open golf tournament held last weekend he was stellar in his victory. He posted 2 wonderfully great scores in the last two rounds of the tournament. In the 3rd round he scored a low 63 and the final round on Sunday he was able to post a 65.

He ended the tournament with -20 beating out the second place competitors who were Chris Kirk and Scott Verplank by 3 strokes. He played beautiful golf over the weekend and if he can possibly bring that same game play to the Masters, he will definitely get back to back green jackets. The other players know he is the one to watch out for especially in the first round. He may start out hot because he closed out the Shell Open red hot.

Tiger Woods is the other story of the Masters tournament this week. He played well in the last tournament he played in which was the Arnold Palmer Invitational but he didn’t win. He still has his fans who have a lot of confidence in him but he hasn’t won a tournament in a long time. Can he win the Masters this year? His game just doesn’t seem to be on par enough to win the Masters, but anything is possible. He posted 4th place last year and we’ll all have to wait to see what he brings to the table.
