As opposed to generations past, where agriculture served as the basis of society, we now live in a world where technology is the basis of society. To accommodate for these changes, and the adapting needs of people, governments, and businesses, a great number of high-tech jobs, like EE, are very much en vogue. The following is a brief overview of EE, for those who may be considering this particular career path.

The education requirements for EE jobs can vary, depending on which specific branch of electrical engineering you are interested in pursuing. A bachelor's degree is often sufficient for low-level, entry positions into the electrical engineering field, but your ability to advance may be quite limited. With the time and energy put into obtaining a master's degree, you can better ensure that you will have a consistently progressing career in the field. By successfully completing a PhD program in EE, you increase your chances of finding an ideal career quite considerably. In the majority of situations, more education and field-related experience one has, the better career of job position one is able to achieve.

This same principle of education and experience also applies within the workplace, where more responsibility is given to those with more experience in both education and occupation. Many recent graduate engineers may not have all of the licenses, certifications, or clearances that senior engineers have, thereby relegating them to the lowest degree of EE responsibility. Upon the knowledge-base developed over years of experience and various licensing and certification processes, senior engineers are given the most, and most important, responsibilities within the electrical engineering field. As graduate engineers go through the rigors of the job, climbing up the success ladder experience by experience, they could find themselves as a team leader or project manager at some time.

EE must possess a functional knowledge of electrical concepts, how electricity and electronic devices work, as well as electrical safety procedures, since their primary focus involves the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power. EE are also required to be skilled at communication and project development, as well as being skilled in organization and analytical thinking. Good EEs must be able to work well with others of diverse backgrounds, since many of the projects they either manage or are part of will include a number of people with specialized skills in many other disciplines.
