If you enjoy playing rpgs then you know that there are a lot of different options out there—especially online. Unfortunately, not all rpgs are created equal. Some are simply better than others and there are some things that will inevitably make or break your online rpg experience. Learning to look for the signs of a good rpg will save you from wasting your valuable entertainment time on what may turn out to be a poor gaming experience, leaving you plenty of time for the fun stuff.

Check Out the Customization

One of the most important factors in choosing an online rpg is the player themselves. If you are a committed player, for example, you may find that your best experiences will come from online games with a downloadable component. This is because, as a general rule, they’ll come with more options for customization of your experience. You may be able to customize your character, or your gear, or even your specific adventures. If you are a casual rpg player, however, you may not want that level of specificity to your game playing experience. In that case, try looking for a browser-based game that allows you to jump right into the action and start playing.

Look for a Good Yarn

One thing that won’t change, no matter what kind of gamer you are, is your desire for strong storytelling. You can get a sense of which rpgs have the storytelling that you want by looking at their premises. The more interesting the premise, the higher the likelihood that the rpg will offer a unique and interesting story. Eventually, you’ll learn exactly what types of stories and genres you prefer to play in. After that, all you’ll need to do is pay attention to the quality of the game's writing and graphics. You’ll find that there are plenty of strong online rpgs out there waiting for you.
