When it comes to home entertainment and choosing the best audio systems and TV element there can be quite a few questions to answer.

The first thing you will have to decide is the kind of TV that you want to have in your living room and plasma and LCD flatscreens are the most popular these days, but they do have different advantages.

There's no doubt that more and more people these days are choosing flat screen LCD's over Plasma's and other older models of TV. The advantage of an LCD is that because it uses liquid crystal technology it does't burn images into the screen that are not moving for a few minutes.

Plasmas have been known to do this and it can ruin your viewing experiece once the mark is there.Keep in mind though that LCD screens scratch much more easily, so if you have young kids then this can be an issue, so its always a good idea to mount them higher on the wall to avoid damage.

On average an LCD will get you about 55,000 hours of viewing time, where as a plasmas is about half that.

With the switch to digital a few years ago, it is important to look for TV that is able to pick up digital, and most newer models will have this feature, just check for a atsc/ntsc tuner.

Another thing to consider is the resolution and definition of the TV you get. Plasma and LCD's both come in models that have exceptional definition, but it all comes down to the price you are willing to pay. I recommend you check the details on each model carefully before purchase.

As far as brands go, Phillips and Samsung have the best LCD's in my opinion on the market. You can get LCD's for the kitchen also, these are known as under cabinet tv units, and you can get them with digital LCD these days also. The sound quality is never quite as good but they do the job.

I think the better option than getting an under counter tv is to buy mounting brackets and install a better quality LCD on the wall. This way you can get a large screen and much better sound quality, but they do cost a lot more too.

At the end of the day whatever you choose, make sure you get extra warranty, because like any electronic device LCD or Plasma, they can break down on you!
