A few months ago, my wife and I had to make a big decision. We were trying purchase a new home and found out that we had poor credit. After a week or two of dedicated research, we came to the conclusion that this was a project that we simply couldn't do on our own. We decided to seek the help of a credit repair company. We discovered a few things during our research and wanted to help others who were in a similar situation. In the end, raising our credit was once of the best things that we ever did for our personal finances. Not only we were able to purchase the home of our dreams, we also saved a lot of money on interest rates.
1. Avoid The Scam - Sadly, there are some companies out there that are simply scams. If an organization says that they'll "erase all your bad credit!" or "raise your score by 200 points" they are most likely an illegitimate company. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be sure to check out the BBB for any company that you may be working with.
2. Find Reviews - Nowadays, it only takes a few minutes to do a quick search for company reviews. Credit repair reviews will help you find a company that other people have had success with.
3. Talk To Friends - Do you have any friends who have gone through a similar process? Do you know of any co-workers that recently bought a house or a new car? They may have gone through a similar process when they tried to boost their credit score. Talk to them and see if they opted to work with a credit repair group. Who knows, they may have a great recommendation.
4. Do-It-Yourself - Did you know that a lot of credit repair can be done on your own? If you are generally a pretty determined person, you may want to take on your credit repair all by yourself. There are tons of articles and resources available online that can help get you on the path to good credit. However, just remember that this path is not for everybody. Fixing your credit can be timely and occasionally expensive. It's often a better idea for people to hire professionals for this rather than doing it alone.
The last piece of advice that I can give you is that it's better to move sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the worse your credit is going to be. You need to be proactive about fixing your credit!
