When looking at history we can see that the Australian politics has its roots firmly as a liberal democracy. Australia is considered as the land of little water, vast deserts and also an abundance of beer-drinkers in each and every corner. Some of us might have heard of a prevailing issue - the carbon tax. We aim to examine this aspect a little more in this article.

The carbon tax is also known as a tax on carbon dioxide. It is a tax implemented on the industries and businesses which produces carbon dioxide by means of their operations. Carbon atoms are found in the fossil fuels such as petroleum, coal and also in natural gas. These atoms of carbon will later be released in the form of carbon dioxide. The tax on the carbon dioxide has been introduced to minimise the emission of carbon dioxide as well as other greenhouse gases, like carbon monoxide.

This gas being emitted is an odourless and a colourless gas and will be in an incombustible form when it is released into the atmosphere. The tax on carbon dioxide has been introduced with the goal of protecting the environment from rapid global warming. In addition to the above said factors, the tax on carbon will also be applicable for the usage of the fossil fuels based on the percentage of the carbon present in the emission of the fuels. It is also taken into consideration as the method of carbon pricing for the on the emission of the greenhouse gas. A fixed amount will be set up by the government for the emission of carbon in some of the specific sectors. Later on the pricing will be passed onto the consumers by the business people.

There are so many benefits with the implementation of the carbon tax. Some of them are described below. The main purpose behind this tax is to reduce the emission of the green house gas. So with an intention to minimise the tax rate, these business people will only be using the less amount of energy from the fossil fuels. With this an individual might use the public transportation facility rather that the own vehicles. They may also switch over to the CFL, the compact fluorescent lamps. This tax also supports the use of alternative energy so that it will become more competitive in cost when compared to the other cheaper fuels. A price on carbon may also potentially affect economic and weather conditions.
