When Men Do the Shopping   by Maria Jones

Any man who has agonized over what to buy his wife or girlfriend for Valentine's Day should appreciate online shopping, especially if he has made up his mind to get his significant other an article of sexy lingerie. For a select few men, it is no problem at all to stride purposefully into Victoria's Secret, check out the merchandise and confidently make a selection. For everyone else, there's the World Wide Web.

Feeling Around in the Dark

Men who buy clothing for the women in their lives are starting out on thin ice. First of all, what do men know about woman's fashion? It's not like buying them something from the tool department at Sears - that would be a piece of cake. Another problematic aspect: How do men know what size to buy? Logic would dictate that they check a few of the items hanging in her closet, but they could have shrunk (or she could have grown) in the time since that little thing was worn last.

Don't Err on the Side of Caution

Lingerie is, almost by default, the easiest type of apparel for a man to buy as a present to the woman he loves. Since she's only going to wear it for him - at least that's the idea - it shouldn't matter if he picks out a baby doll, a chemise or a teddy. Even with a pure shot in the dark, a guy might get lucky and get her a push-up bra that she might like, or a corset that she might not adore but will still hang onto (kind of like him sometimes). Even women who have accrued a few pounds over the course of marital bliss can appreciate some sexy plus-size lingerie.

Spandex, silk, satin, leather, lace... It may not all be the same, but in any case, it's the thought that counts. Even if she doesn't care for the new thong that she takes out of the heart-shaped box (always keep in mind that slinky lingerie doesn't necessarily mean comfortable lingerie), she'll still be happy to wear it for him - and probably not for very long, if you think about it!
