Why Conventional Golf Instruction Doesn't Work?   by Walter Bush

No sportsmen in the world spend more money on instruction, professional instruction, tips or training aids than golfers. Their pursuit of perfection sees massive amounts of money being spent all year round. Golfers are constantly in search of ways to improve and will gladly spend hours reading instruction manuals, watching DVDs or practicing on the range.

The surprising thing is that most golfers consider that what they are doing will be successful. Do you know that average handicaps have not improved in the last two decades despite all the perceived advances in balls, equipment and teaching techniques?

Unfortunately, the problem is traditional teaching systems. The customary goal of teachers is to achieve a technically perfect golf swing. I'm confident you've experienced the usual lesson where your pro records you playing a few shots and then puts it unto the computer. He will put some lines on the screen to indicate how everything needs to be done perfectly. He'll bring up a video of Tiger or Luke Donald and compare their swings to yours. The fact is that you can never swing the club like either of those 2 golfers because you are not physically competent to do it.). He'll point out where your swing is going wrong. Your stacne is wrong. Your ball position is incorrect. Your backswing is outside the line. etc, etc.

The next thing he will do is inform you what you have to do to fix everything.. But you can only work on one thing at a time. Get yourself ready now for many expensive lessons which may or may not work. The problem with this process is this.

You have now seen where you are going wrong and your coach shows you what you should to do to correct your swing. You'll play a few more shots and he'll play them back to you. You will see some instant improvements and you'll feel good about it. You'll hit some more shots and you'll hit a few good ones. "That's brilliant" you'll think to yourself, "his instruction works". Great stuff and you hand him over another $30 or so. He'll tell you to go and work on a few things for next week.

What do you think occurs then? You go on the course or practice range full of optimism. Within a short period of time you will be back to where you started. The problem is you have no camera recording you now. You have no instructor with you. You can't tell how you are swinging. You are trying to abide by your instructors advice but you cannot tell if you are succeeding or not. The likelihood is that you will slowly slip into your old swing again. Because it will be a week before you see your instructor again, all you do is reinforce your old bad habits. You are back to where you started and will be somewhat dejected.

The problem with modern instruction is that you have no way to know exactly what you are doing. Regrettably your coach is not with you while you play or practice. You have no reference point. You are unable to monitor what you are doing. All you will accomplish using this system will be to lessen your bank balance while making little or no improvement.

A much better choice is to use a teaching program which allows you to understand your swing sequence and then you will be able to quickly fix any faults. You require a procedure which is very easy to comprehend and which you can monitor yourself. Picture playing a round of golf and you start to hit some bad shots. You have no idea how to sort out the problem. Picture being in a position to instantly detect the problem and correct it before your score sky rockets out of control.

Many experts will tell you the golf downswing is the key to playing good golf. There is more to it than that. Discover how you can learn a complete golf swing in a few weeks and then go on to play the best golf of your life. Visit http://www.golfdownswinginfo.com
